I hate computers. Hate them, hate them, HATE THEM. I am severely tempted to just throw mine against the wall and have done with it.

On a less "done with life now, kthx" note... Midnight showing of The Hobbit tonight! We got tickets a while back, and were able to get them for a regular showing (I'd like to see the 3D at some point in theaters... but not the first time), so all set there.

I was originally thinking that I'd dress up, but then... Well, the elf costume that I wore for TTT and ROTK doesn't exactly fit me well anymore, and without the past-waist-length hair isn't nearly as effective anyway. And then we arranged for another family we know to come along with us - much more recent fans, who've never been to a midnight showing of a movie before - and seeing as they're not nearly such die-hard fans... certain family members persuaded me that it'd be better not to scare them off to badly. *g* So, planning on no dressing up.

But then, just the day before yesterday, the youngest member of ther family who'll be coming along (one of their boys, about - ten, I think?) informed me that he is definitely going to be in costume. Any excuse, apparently. Annnnd... he wanted Nef and me to dress up too, so he wouldn't be the only one. SO. Change of plans! Not sure if Nef'll be in costume (will depend on how she's feeling), but I'm gonna be going as a hobbit. 

If I get any good ones, I might put up pictures of my costume tomorrow. Not too bad, I think, for something improvised within a day and a half out of things I had lying around. ;D (Sadly, I think that going barefoot will be out of the question. In a Minnesota winter, with about a foot of snow on the ground... frostbite would not be a particularly fun conclusion to the evening. *sighs*)

You will have SO much fun!! I'm glad you have a costume you were able to cobble together. I have my Bilbo t-shirt to wear, but that's as costume-y as I get. If I didn't have that, I have either a Three Farthing Stone Smial shirt (sent by Liz; it's her local smial) or a Tolkien Society shirt that has a cartoon of Gandalf and Aragorn driving a 1960s VW bus, with the quote, "Aragorn and Gandalf went in the van", also a gift from Liz. *g* (https://ehive.com/account/3437/object/8120/Gandalf_and_Aragorn_went_in_the_van_T-shirt)

You have my sympathies re: computers. My computer abruptly "lost" my entire desktop theme, and all the files, when I went to log on this morning, but fortunately, a re-boot restored it all (and I do have all my files backed up with Carbonite, but the thought of having to download them all... oy. Talk about migraines). My rooted Nook/Kindle also freaked out on me in the last week. It's fixed but I still have to re-download all the books on it. Bleh. I hope you got your com-poo-ter woes vanquished.

Oh, what awesome shirts! ;D Makes me want to find some good LOTR shirts myself... All I've got is one Legolas one. *g*

I am getting SO excited! I'm actually curling my hair, which I haven't done since I was probably... nine. Tested it out yesterday to make sure I still had the knack, so - here's hoping it actually turns out for tonight!

Heheh, it's always a relief when a restart puts things back as they should be, isn't it? ^^ Gah, my computer just... blargh. I tend to have a lot of browser tabs open at any given time, to remind me of various things I need to do, or read, so there are several failsafes installed that're supposed to save everything in the event of a crash or unplanned restart. But, naturally, none of them worked today, nor was anything helpful in my "recently closed" lists, annnnnd it managed to decide to "update" itself at such a time as to lose some of my progress on my most recent painting. (Which I have spent weeks on, and really, really want to get finished.) *sigh* I honestly have no idea at this point if I've retrieved everything I needed to finish. :P

I would totally try to dress up if I wasn't such a coward about such things (mostly because I would be the only one dressing up, and I have a thing about being the only one doing anything of an attention-catching nature). So I totally envy your dressing up and having people to dress up with. It sounds like fun :D

Let us know how the film looks. There's been all this kerfuffle about Jackson filming it in some new, fancy way for 3D purposes that has made it a pain to watch non-3D... or something, I don't know anymore. All I know is that there was all this talk of visual issues and I've been rather nervous about it.

I am usually such a ridiculously shy coward. It really took me months just to learn how to yell in karate, because I hate drawing attention to myself so much. So it is just bizarre that I find dressing up in costume so oddly... freeing. It actually makes me more confident in interacting with people in settings where I'd normally be trying to melt into the walls. (LOL, at the showing for Return of the King, when I was dressed up as an elf, there was a guy dressed up as a Santa-style elf to advertise for a different movie, and I actually ended up getting into a rather hilarious argument with him over "the free peoples of Middle Earth" vs. "Santa's slaves". *bg*) I wish you lived closer, because it would be so fun to dress up with you sometime for an event like this. :3

I will! I'm very interested to see how the new filming style works out... I've heard both good and bad about it, so. We shall see. ^^

Wah, if only we were seeing it together! I probably won't be able to see it until Monday afternoon...and on that note, we shall have to see about calling, so we can Discuss afterwards. ^_^

I should love to see pictures of your costume! (Though I agree...hobbit feet in Minnesota in December is kind of ill-advised. XD)

Awww, I know. ;_; It just seems like we should be going together to something like this, and it makes it even more sad that you'll have to wait daaaaays to even see it yourself. Wah.

I can't wait to discuss it all with you, though, once we've all seen it! *bounces* I'm not sure whether this Monday will work, because Nef's got a follow-up appointment for her surgery, which she'll have to go all the way into the Cities for... But maybe another time will work this week? Definitely need to find a time asap!

Neffie and I are going to poke Eric or Dad into taking some pictures in a bit, once I get the curlers out of my hair... Hopefully we'll get at least a couple of good ones!

Ick...I hope Nef's follow-up appointment goes well! Maybe Wednesday would work for a call? Because that's the only other day next week that I'm not working (aside from Saturday). I have so much to telllll you all, even aside from discussing and critiquing the Hobbit. *flails*

Heh, yeah, not exactly a fun one... but I think it should be reassuring for her, as far as whether everything's going normally and all.

And yes - I do think Wednesday should work well for us! \o/ So... I think we can tentatively plan on that at this point. ^^
