*sigh*

Didn't do so great on the pet front today.

This time of year, of course, more often than not it's just too hot to bring the dog along with us many places. Mr. Clingy Overgrown Puppy is not pleased with this news. He was further upset by the fact that we were gone longer than usual today. He didn't do too badly (relatively speaking) during the time he was in the garage... but the second he got into the house he decided he was too excited to hold it any longer, and peed all over before I could open the door to let him out.

*sigh* Okay, kicked him outside, cleaned it up... discovered that our Very Indoor Cat Ro had somehow escaped, and spent the entire day outside. Got the cat in, got the dog in, no harm done, we're okay. Dog decides to further express how utterly overwhelmed he is by the fact that we've returned (Surprise! Again! Actually, we have never yet failed to do this. And yet still...) by gulping down large quantities of water, despite having drank plenty earlier in the garage. He then proceeded to throw up. Twice. As he tends to do when he drinks too fast. This is why we have to stand over him and remind him to slow down when he's excited.

So. Cleaned all that up too. Things settle down a bit. Ro decides this evening that, for the first time ever, the sound of distant fireworks makes him skittish. Come on, he wasn't that twitchy over the ginormous storm, complete with hail, that we had a couple days ago. Still, he's not acting too much more wild than he occasionally gets at night, so just pet him a bit and otherwise ignore the antics. Maybe he's just afraid he won't get his dinner today, seeing as he is a Wild Outdoor Cat now (as proof: he even caught a mouse!), and they don't get cat food. They have to fend for themselves and become fierce, wild, nocturnal hunters. Thus: twitchiness, and racing up and down stairs.

Have to take care of the dog's ears. He's got an ear infection, again. Having been around this block quite a few times in the past, he knows getting ear medication is Evil, as is getting them cleaned, so he's not eager to co-operate, despite my many reassurances and pets and treats to make the whole process less traumatizing for him. As a result, it's hard to get things cleaned out properly, and tonight I needed to trim up his ears some more, to make it easier to clean and get rid of a few mats from the oily medication before they get worse. And of course, for the first time ever... I got too close, and nicked the poor baby's skin. Twice. I can't believe I did that. I'm always so careful with it... Yes, he got extra treats, and didn't act at upset or in pain once it was over, but still.  ;_;

And then, to top things off nicely, Ro apparently decided to express his frustration with life in general and fireworks specifically, by... pooping in the dining room. On the off-white carpeting, naturally.

*headdesk* Today, I fail as a pet owner. I'm going to bed.

Oh gosh, what a day you had, animal-wise! It's so frustrating when all the pets decide en masse to go utterly berserk. And poo inside.

*gives sleeping Pip-cat a sidelong glance* I hope she doesn't read this over my shoulder and get any ideas!

Sounds like *you* needed some treats by the end of the day. Preferably chocolate in the form of a Ranger....

Heh heh, it seems like they just feed off each other's insanity at times like that. I'm not sure we've ever had an animal that was truly normal, really. Well, the snakes were, mostly. Except the one that got killed by crickets. But there's a reason we've been described as "the home for confused animals." They've all been a little - quirky. Most days it takes endearing forms. But other times... XD

Fortunately, things seem to have returned to what passes for normal, today. No major messes to clean up after! *breathes a sigh of relief* I certainly could've used a nice chocolate Ranger yesterday, though. *bg*

Heh heh... this would be the little red bellied snake - a surprisingly nice pet, and we were awfully attached to him. He was just the right size for us to hold when we were younger, and didn't have any teeth so on the occasions when he attempted to bite he couldn't do anything, even if he managed to fit his mouth around a finger. He became quite docile, and we played with him all the time, even made mazes out of our wooden blocks for him.

We mostly fed him crickets and little grasshoppers - some that we caught, supplemented by ones from a pet shop. Usually we'd just have a couple in the cage, but if we left for a few days we'd stick a few more in to tide him over.

Nice system, and it worked fine... until one time they apparently ganged up on him, and we came home to find him with holes kicked in his sides. Poor thing, killed by his food. :'(

Well, my word. That's the first time I've heard of crickets attacking.

There's gotta be a B-movie horror flick from the 1950s about that!

LOL - attack of the killer crickets! D:

Since there was only one little dish, my best guess is that a couple of the biggest ones were able to bully him away from the water long enough to negate the advantage of his being, er, a snake, and bigger than them. However they did it, though, the end result was crickets: 1, snake: 0. Never woulda guessed it. *shakes head*

Of course, later on, we had an aquarium just for pet crickets for a while. Lovely to listen to at night. Until they ate each other too. So yeah. The viciousness of crickets is pretty much confirmed in my mind now. ;P

Ah, the joys of pets. Just goes to show you how much we love them, considering all that we go through to take care of them. I remind my pets often of this when they have "accidents" or it's time to dump the entire cat little box (that always ways a ton and manages to spill:/).

It is amazing, isn't it? All the stuff they put us through, and still we not only keep them around, but give them hugs and kisses and treats, even after stunts like that. Somehow it all manages to even out and make them so very worth it. Most days. *g*

I've decided our life is so much more fun and less stressful when you narrate it like this. *nods*

Srsly. I giggled--and I lived this. And I was not giggling. At all. 'Specially after 'Ro decided to leave us that Surprise Present last thing at night.

So, yeah. Narrate to me wittily the next time I'm stressed, plox.

^.^

From now on, all of our pets' antics shall be accompanied by Dramatic Narration. *nods*

Or maybe I'll just turn them all into a novel, or something.
