imbecamielWell... erm, seems whenever I post around here lately, it's to apologize for my general absence 'round here. So I'm not going to. Apologize, that is. ;P So. Moving right along...

Life's been good, if even more crazy than usual. Spent a good amount of time getting things ready our vacation (gotta make sure there are keepers for all the pets, for one, and some of the people who usually watch for us are going to be gone), and preparing for the church picnic, which was supposed to be at our house last Sunday... and which got postponed due to rain, so we had to do all the preparation over again and more this week, in order to host it tomorrow. And in addition to that, we've had multiple things going on every single day - no joke - all of which involved being gone a good part of the day, and also required us to get up early and leave first thing. *is sooo not a morning person*
BUT, been good, nonetheless. For one thing - and I promise, this will be the only, brief, mention of karate I'll make this time around - I got Side Kick of the Month! Erm, that'd be referring to a particular type of kick, not someone who hangs around with superheroes. ;P Y'see, every month at testing the instructors single out one person in each category (children, adult beginner, adult advanced) who did the best, and that person's name is then displayed on the board for the next month. And I got it in the advanced category! *bouncy* I have been really, really wanting this ever since we started, but given the competition by this level... I thought I was past any real chance at it. Hee! *is so overjoyed*
Another reason for delight - as well as the title of the post, and the icon: I have been reveling in renewing my enjoyment of what may well be considered to have been my very first true fandom (which, as it happens, is also the one that introduced me to![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
cirtholien *hugs*). That is, The Scarlet Pimpernel. Mmm, I've read the books, searched for fanfiction (what little there is), listened to the music, and all-around loved it. Of course, over time my active interest in it has waxed and waned, but it's one I just keep coming back to. Just recently, I have come across new fuel for enthusiasm, in the form of a couple of lovely little fanfics, and a bunch of YouTube videos of the Broadway play. Ooo, I have been wanting to see that for years, but there has been absolutely nothing available. And these videos are so very awesome - Doug Sills is Percy! *fannish glee*
And the books. Much to my sorrow, they've been out of print long enough that if you wanted anything more than the first one you'd have to search Ebay and such for them, and even if you were lucky enough to find them they'd cost an arm and a leg. And I only have so many limbs... Don't get me wrong, I've been incredibly grateful that their expired copyright has allowed them to be available online, but it's not the same as a book. But! They're being printed again now! Eee! :D It took some searching (and much comparing of prices and factoring in various member discounts versus shipping costs) and ordering a couple different places, but, with the exception of Child of the Revolution, I was able to get every single one of the books. Still a good-sized price tag, all told, but reasonable for the number of books.
And, and - there was one book I had never heard of before. O.O There wasn't a whole lot of detail on it, but I can't find any reference anywhere to it having been published under a different name previously, and it's not on the Blakeney Manor site, doesn't appear to be on most lists of the series far as I can see, but it is most definitely declared by the publisher to be a Scarlet Pimpernel book written by Baroness Orczy. Has anyone else heard anything about The After House? Is this possible? Could there really be one I haven't read yet? *vibrates*
Anyhow, the first batch of my loverly new books has already arrived. *hugs new copy of El Dorado, my favoritest of all the books*
And then my glee drove me to try to find some Scarlet Pimpernel icons, though I didn't expect them to be many or easy to find. But I did find a bunch, right off. Yay! :D
Heh, and on an entirely unrelated not we heard some interesting news. A while ago the barbecue place in our little town shut down (complicated story, never did get all of it - someone was dealing drugs, or... something). Well, now they're tearing the place down, to build a credit union there. Or... they were. Until they found human remains buried there. Not real recent, from what I hear, but still.

Be interesting to see what that turns out to be all about. Heh.
Any rate - must be off to bed. Tomorrow's gonna be a loooong day. I love being able to host the picnic here, but the one real downside is that if you get tired... you can't just leave. ;)

Going back to it isn't merely a matter of enjoying the books themselves, but of bringing back all the cozy, happy memories all over again. (Oh! And if at some point you do want to order some of the books, I can send you links to the best-priced places I found, if you like. Might save you needing to do over some of the searching I did. ;) )
Waah about The After House, though! And it sounded like such an intriguing title... *is so mad* Seriously, I can't believe none of the sellers actually say that. It's like... false advertising, or something. *pouts* Heh, but thank you for figuring that out, though! It would've been rather a mess, trying to return the book. :P
Bleh, yeah... human remains under the barbecue place? Not a pleasant thought, at all. Rumor has it, though, that they may be old enough that it'll prove to have been a Native American burial site. Which would be... I'd say the least creepy explanation I could think of. ;)
The picnic did go just wonderfully! Quite exhausting (12 hours straight of socialization? *dies*), but the weather could not possibly have been more perfect. :D (And oh man - we're leaving next Friday! So. Very. Close! *can't wait*)
