Digital painting, yay. ^^

From time to time, I tend to work on paintings that're kind of... a study in all the things I can't do. XD A lot of them wind up getting abandoned partway through, when I run out of patience, or get thoroughly fed up with my inability to master certain skills... or realize that I've done something technologically stupid which is going to prevent it from working out the way I wanted.
But anyhow. I've been really wanting to get better at backgrounds, perspective, and fine detail work (among oh so many other things), so I've been plowing away at this painting over the last month or so, trying out different techniques, and now I'm actually fairly happy with it. And I thought I'd post it here. ^^
This is a baby of one of the little dragonish critters from the book I'm writingincredibly slowly. The specie still oesn't have a name, because I've been having trouble coming up with anything that seems to fit, but I'm thinking it'll likely be something similar in sound to "Fennec" (as in Fennec foxes).

Probably the most detailed painting I've ever done, so I'm happy that I at least had the patience to stick with it this long. *g* I still have no idea what to do with overall composition and balance of colors, though.
And some rougher head/expression studies for adults from the same species, trying to get the design pinned down. I think the muzzle length on the left two is a leettle longer than it should've been, and I was having problems with the ears on the middle one, but at least this'll work as a good reference sheet for now. :3
