imbecamiel: (Shep - Got to be Kidding)

So, we were driving into town the other day, and came to a T intersection. At that intersection, naturally, there is a road sign with an arrow pointing in each direction. You know, the kind that looks rather like this: [ <---> ] Someone had written on that sign. Now normally I don't approve of graffiti, but I had to smile at this one. Under the right arrow, they'd written the name of the nearby small town. On the left, they'd simply written, "Boonies". Guess which side we live on? Yep, we be country folk now. ;D

We've had a few animal-related happenings of late...

While digging a hole to plant one of our new trees, Dad and Eric accidentally dug up a nest of turtle eggs. We were able to rescue all but one, and Neffie and I now have five little turtle eggs sitting in a bucket of dirt under a lamp in our room. Here's hoping they make it all right...

And Eric caught a really big garter snake. It was just beautiful, not in the least inclined to bite, and had just eaten, so was really calm and wanted nothing more than to wrap itself around my hands and relax. Man, I wanted to keep it so much. Would have, too, except that we didn't have a good place to put one that big. *makes mental note to check garage sales for old aquariums* I was also really interested, watching it slither off when we released it... We let it go in the grass, and every yard or so it kept popping its head straight up like a periscope on a submarine. Never seen one move quite like that before. :) *gets inspiration for more reptilian drawings*

Also, after visiting our local wild bird food supply store, Dad and Eric have decided to begin raising meal worms. Yes, seriously. Apparently there's a bit of a shortage, and the store's willing to pay for them. Generally I'm not one to freak out too much around creepy crawlies, but... I decline to participate in the operation. I got other ways of making money, kthnx.

EDIT: Oh, and I forgot to mention - seems the parents of some of our friends have been having some cougar trouble on their farm. Been going after their cats and such... LOL, our friends were staying with them, and when the kids said they'd seen a mountain lion, that it had actually come up on the front porch, at first their dad didn't really take them seriously, thought they must've mistaken something else for one, and all that. Then he left out a dead chicken as bait and stayed up that night to watch... and saw it himself. Yep, mountain lion. Not close enough for us to be real concerned, but still. Eep. Ha, and so much for that wildlife conservation magazine and their recently-expressed doubts regarding the cougar population in Minnesota...

And apparently we're turning into the church's Stargate library. The family we originally loaned some DVDs to is now totally into it, and often asks to borrow disks when they can't get them from Netflix or the library. Their daughter also had another girl from church over recently, and showed her some Stargate, and she got totally into it, and rented the first movie to show her family, then asked to borrow some of the beginning disks, because now apparently they're quite excited about it as well... *bg* Yes, one family at a time, we will get our whole church into Stargate. Resistance is futile - you will be assimilated. Oops wrong fandom. Whatever, I like that one too. ;D

Oh! And did I mention that Neffie's been asked to participate in a National Miss Teen pagent? Yeah, she's not interested, but anywho. ;P Always told her she was the pretty one. *bg*

And I don't normally talk politics much, but watching the news the other night I was a bit surprised to see our former governor Jesse Ventura. Not sure how much all you non-Minnesotans remember/know of the joy that was his term in office - but yeah, former pro wrestler, and painful, embarrassing, ridiculous, headdesk-inducing... not the best choice in governors. I really generally avoid speaking disrespectfully of people in authority, however I may disagree with or dislike them, try to respect the position even if I can't respect the person and all that. But yeah, that was bad, and I was happy to see him finally go away. Anywho, seems he's running for the Senate now! As part of his inspiring speech, informing the voters of the reasons why they should vote for him, he asked them to look at him, and look at the other candidates, consider, and ask themselves who they'd like beside them in a dark alley. Yeah. *headdesk* Because we're really wolves, y'know, not people, and naturally the best way to select the people who'll be in charge is by looking at who they can beat up. Well, 'least I can vote this time around. *prepares to check the "anyone but him" box*

So yeah. Might be going to my nephew's baseball game tonight, except it's been storming off and on all day, so weather may prevent. Otherwise...

Okay, I'm gonna stop procrastinating now and work on writing some more. I think I'm almost ready to post more on my SNWCG challenge story, though! Just wanna get a bit more done, make sure I don't wind up having to change any details based on what happens after. *trudges dutifully off*
